Basic Cooking Tips

Oil-free cooking doesn't have to be complicated. We have several tips to get you started.

Our number one tip when you begin the vegan, whole foods, oil free lifestyle is to do a full kitchen makeover. By nature, many of us are resourceful and dislike waste. It will be very hard to maintain your commitment to this lifestyle, though, if you keep foods that you shouldn't be eating. Begin with a complete kitchen overhaul. Eliminate oil, dairy, animal products, and any processed foods and sugars. Buy adequate replacements. We make several suggestions in our free eBook, "Plant Based Indian Basics".
In place of oil, use a couple teaspoons of water in a hot non-stick pan for vagar or sauteeing.

Invest in high-quality non-stick pans. We prefer porcelain coated pans, which are healthier than traditional non-stick pans.

Eat food you love. You will stick to this lifestyle if you find options that are delicious and satisfying. Don't try to "diet" by choosing bland foods. Indian flavors are exciting and many dishes taste great, even without the use of oil.
Some of your favorite meals won't taste good without the use of oil. Limit these to once or twice a month and use MCT oil instead of vegetable oil. MCT oil contains medium chain fatty acids which are healthier than the fats in other oils. For most of your meals, stick to the dishes that taste great even without the use of oil. These will be your staple foods. The others should be eat minimally, especially if you are aiming for disease reversal.

Buy a Misto spray can and fill it with MCT oil for the lightest use of oil.

Eat plenty of food. With a low fat plant based diet, you can eat without counting calories. If you get cravings for unhealthy foods, it means you haven't eaten enough.
